So you’ve signed your next client — awesome.
But what happens next?
Do you send them a link to schedule their first call and leave it at that?
There’s nothing wrong with this practice per se, but you’re missing a huge opportunity to make your client’s experience better (much better, in fact).
If you start out by clearly communicating, overdelivering and supporting your client every step of the way, maintaining high retention will be much easier in the long run…
…even if you do nothing else differently.
With that, today we’re going to dive into exactly how you can build an onboarding funnel that blows clients away!

The Deep Dive: Build The Perfect Client Onboarding Funnel
You don’t need to roll out the red carpet or send them gifts out the wazoo…
….but your onboarding process definitely should not be an afterthought.
After the sale, this is your chance to make a killer first impression.
And let me ask you —
Do you want that impression to be “meh”…
Or do you want it to be freaking awesome?!.
We’re sure you can guess which is more likely to keep someone around for the long haul.
Because the moment you…
Introduce confusion
Make people wonder when they’ll hear from you next
Underplay the investment they’ve made in you…
(…Or even simply delivering a forgettable, “meh” experience…)
You’ve just made it harder on your business to successfully turn them into a lifelong client.
And sure, you can write a fun email and push them into an automated sequence, but there’s so more you can do.
And the more you can use every part of your marketing, sales, and delivery to distinguish yourself from other coaches in your space…..
…..the more your business will grow.
So here are 4 practical steps you can implement immediately to improve your client onboarding process:
Reinforce that your client made a good decision — remind them what they’re getting, how they can best work with you, and ways to make the most of your time together. Perhaps most importantly, genuinely thank them for doing business with you.
Don’t turn on the fire hose — instead of telling your client everything in ONE email, point them to a video series or drip what they need to know in bite-sized emails. Overwhelm often leads to inaction, and you want them to feel supported.
Show them how to schedule their first meeting — It’s important to make your client feel like a priority, so offer them a few options to book your first availability. Don’t leave any barriers preventing them from getting the result they want as soon as possible; eliminate delays wherever possible.
Feel free to add a few gifts or bonuses into the mix — like access to free trainings, a signing bonus or welcome gift — although don’t feel obligated too. The more valuable the client, the more you can generally afford to spend. If possible, make it personal.
We know this may sound simple, but a LOT of thought and strategy that goes into creating the perfect onboarding funnel.

All Aboard The Coaching Train
The coaching industry puts a lot of emphasis on sales — getting prospects in the door, building initial rapport, accepting payments…
But onboarding tends to get the short end of the stick, despite being instrumental in long-term retention.
Not to mention, great onboarding is its own form of sales: You’re re-selling clients on the decision to work with you and giving them something fun they can tell their friends about.
Nail this process and you’ll be building lasting relationships with clients in no time.
